Encinitas Unity: CA-49, Northern San Diego County- Indivisible Group
HOW WE BEGAN...
After Donald Trump was elected President of the United States, many of us were depressed, angry and scared. We were sick at the thought of all of our hard work being thrown away in a matter of months, sending our country and future generations into turmoil and suffering as a result of exclusionary and retrograde policies.
This anger propelled a small group of us to announce a march in downtown Encinitas, less than a week after the election. We decided to call it the "Unity March" because we wanted to be inclusive and promote healing.
The Encinitas Unity March was held on Sunday, November 13, 2016. We expected 30 people but over 500 men, women and children showed up. We marched down the 101 in downtown Encinitas toward Moonlight Beach, closing down the northbound 101 and a movement was started.
After that fateful Sunday, we created the Encinitas Unity Facebook page to continue the important work we started. Since then, our group has grown organically to almost 500, adding new people daily.
We are following Indivisible recommendations and guidelines for how to best resist the Trump agenda.
We are also partnering with other groups to address specific problems including the environment, reproductive rights, immigration, health care, sexual orientation, age, disability, and local issues of homelessness and mental illness.
